Rhinoplasty
| Dr Puig will evaluate your face as a whole in order to determine the areas that will need to be addressed during surgery. The goal of a rhinoplasty surgery is to create a nose that is in harmony with other facial features, your ethnicity, and your personal goals will be taken into account as well.
During surgery, manipulation of the nasal bones, cartilage, and internal structures of the nose are performed to ensure that the new shape you see on the outside is well supported by the internal structure on the inside. Sometimes the addition of grafts (usually cartilage), are needed to achieve the ideal size, shape, and function of your nose. Duration of results are permanent but may change with aging. Rhinoplasty recovery involves wearing a splint on your nose for a week, and possible a small intranasal gauze dressing which is removed the first day after the surgery. Bruising and swelling may occur around the eyes and cheeks. You may feel congested like you have a cold. To keep swelling to a minimum, you will want to sleep with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows for about a week, use cold compresses, and pain medications as prescribed. You should be back to yourself in 7 – 10 days. Resume strenuous activity in 4-6 weeks. Results continue to refine for up to a year. Be sure to use sunblock after surgery as sun exposure can cause pigment changes in healing skin. Risks of rhinoplasty – bleeding, infection, asymmetry, nasal airway obstruction, complications due to anesthesia, unsatisfactory results. Sometimes a secondary procedure may be needed to refine results. |
