Balance
Computerized Balance Evaluation
Balance problems affect millions of people every year. We use Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) to evaluate motor control and balance function under a variety of different conditions. CDP tests the relationships among all the parts of your balance system- your eyes, somatosensory system (information your brain receives from your muscles and joints), and your vestibular system (the portion of your inner ear responsible for directing information to your brain about your position in space). It can detect vestibular weakness and your standing balance ability.
Videonystagmography (or VNG) assesses visual-vestibular interactions (between your eyes and inner ear) and can detect vestibular or neural weakness. VNG testing is used to determine if a vestibular disease may be causing a balance or dizziness problem, and is one of the only tests available today that can decipher between a unilateral (one ear) and bilateral (both ears) vestibular loss.
